Our History

Murray & Roberts Marine has a proud history within the marine engineering, design and construction environment.

Murray & Roberts Marine

In 1978 well known engineering contractors, Christiani & Nielsen South Africa became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Murray & Roberts Group, it was subsequently rebranded to Christiani & Nielsen Design & Construct (CANDAC) and completed several high profile projects which included Cape Town Harbour, Pier II in Durban, Simonstown Naval Base, Port Botany in Sydney, Australia, Saldanha Bay Iron Ore Terminal and the Richards Bay Coal Terminal.

Our marine pipeline heritage evolved from Land & Marine Contractors, who had a long history of projects in South Africa in conjunction with Murray & Roberts.

In the early 90’s these two capabilities were brought together under the Lama brand, another wholly-owned Murray & Roberts subsidiary.

In 2005, the company was renamed Murray & Roberts Marine and commenced a growth strategy as a fully-fledged independent company within the Murray & Roberts Group.
